From arid land and stubborn men comes a generous wine

Port, a magical wine, offers those who love drinking it a cascade of words drawn from Portuguese—quintarabelolagarescolheita, and caseiroare some—and English—including “ruby”, “tawny”, “vintage”, and “LBV”. Both languages have been woven into its history since the 15th century. In the Douro Valley, 150 km from Oporto, steep, endlessly curving roads lead you to quintas, winemaking estates surrounded by breathtakingly high terraces. Here the grapevines stand like fortifications around the Rio Douro.

When we talk about the Douro Valley, we pay homage to a region where some of the world’s greatest wines are made… Come to the Douro to observe its fantastical landscapes and meet the men and women who have, over the years, patiently guarded the secrets of making this precious nectar. ’
